Oscar Pink Colours

All kinds of pink was trending on the Oscar red carpet. There is a shade for everyone since everything from the lightest rose quartz to the boldest hot pink looked beautiful. 

There are different ways of creating pink. You can use the Tintex Pink available at our store in large bulk tubs or the 50g boxes at selected Dollarama. You can also mix a custom dye colour yourself.

  • Make Pastel Pink: use 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4 tsp of Fuschia mixed with 1 cup hot water. Start with the smallest amount and add more dye or hot water as needed. You can also experiment with adding a small amount of another dye colour like Scarlet Red or Cardinal Red to change the pastel.
  • Lighten Scarlet or Cardinal Red: make a colour sample by using 1/8, 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon of the red dye mixed with 1 cup of hot water (when you use less dye than usual, the colour will  be lighter than package colour).
  • Change Pink Tone: try using a small amount (1/8 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon or 1/2 teaspoon) of Purple or Dark Plum and Beige to make the colour look warmer. 
  • Mix Custom Hot Pink:  use 2 teaspoon Scarlet Red + 1 teaspoon Royal Blue + 1 teaspoon Purple + 1 cup of very hot water. Adjust the amounts used and substitute dyes as needed.
  • Make Colours Brighter or Deeper: Use the hottest water possible  (no tap water!) for your fabric, try the stove top dyeing method, heat water with a kettle or use 140°F water.

1/8 tsp Cardinal Red + 1/8 tsp Tan Beige + 1 cup of very hot water = Rose Quartz

2 tsp scarlet red + 1 tsp royal blue + 1 tsp purple + 1 cup of very hot water = Shocking Pink

    You can use fabric dye to update or change the colour of almost anything in your closet. it is possible to dye all sorts of dresses (as long as they are made of suitable fabric). You can even use fabric dye to update the colour of a crinoline that is worn under a dress to create more volume.
